A Note from Our Founder…

A common question that I get asked is, “What inspired you to start Fostering Hope Children’s Home?” Generally, my reply has been something along the lines of: “Because I know what it’s like to be a kid from a hard place”. While this answer is true, I have come to realize that it is only partly accurate.

It is true that I suffered abuse and neglect and would one day be adopted. It would also take many years to even begin to sort through the trauma that I faced. However, part of my healing journey was impacted by faithful people in my life. These people created a safe place for me and walked alongside me as I processed the “tough stuff”. They stuck around when I pushed them away, speaking truth to my heart as I expressed the hurt and pain.

The inspiration for Fostering Hope Children’s Home is not simply born from a story of being a child from a hard place. Rather, it is inspired by those who took time to love me and give me what child development specialists would call “felt safety”. Essentially, they created an environment that helped me to feel safe and provided room for me to heal and to trust again.  They are part of what fueled my desire to help others. I desire to create that same environment for other people—especially children.

I have had the privilege of helping children from hard places whether it has been working at a stateside children’s home, or in my classroom as a teacher. My prayer is that the Lord continues to use me and all who work at Fostering Hope to help those who need it most.
